The Blessing Way is a way for a pregnant woman and her close friends to mark and celebrate her transition into motherhood. Unlike a Baby Shower, which is more baby and gift focused, the Blessing Way is a sacred gathering centered upon the pregnant woman, giving her focused attention and support. It is a space where the mom-to-be can share her hopes, fears and dreams and feel supported and activated to go on into her birthing time.
This is a sacred ritual that honors the sacred feminine and comes originally from the Native American Indian traditions. It is a way to ritualistically invite in spiritual help for the birth time and honor the pregnant woman with a day of activities that nurture her with food, massage, henna belly painting and a variety of other nurturing activities. The ceremony itself is very spiritual and should, if possible, include the pregnant woman’s elders who have birthed before her.
There are many ways to perform a Blessing Way. Our minister will have a phone consultation with you to help you decide on anything you may need to know about the ceremony such as who to invite and what type of activities to prepare.
Your minister will herself be an elder mother who understands the birthing process and is able to honor the tradition of the natives. She will prepare a ritual that will help to release any fears about birth as well as invite in a sacred team of feminine ancestors to assist the mother to be with her in her birth. If the mother chooses, the minister can also be available at the birthing time to assist the baby’s soul through during birth.
You will want to invite any female friends and relatives that are close to the mother to be. It is important that she is comfortable with everyone that attends and that those who attend understand their part in this ceremony is about the mother to bes comfort and pampering! The baby shower may be more appropriate for those who do not understand the spiritual element of a Blessing Way.
Our minister will have a specific skill set and experience that allows for a beautiful, alchemizing ceremony.
If she chooses, the mother to be will be dressed, henna belly painted and feet washed by the elder women present. Everyone present will be a part of the ceremony.
Each woman will share something special about her own birth and the wisdom that came of each birth with the mother to be. Your friends who have not become mothers yet this lifetime also share what they know or remember about their own birth as they came into this incarnation. All will share something for the pregnant woman to take with her into her birthing time. Each woman’s heartfelt gift will be given at the end of her story such as a crystal, her baby’s first bootie or something else that is heartfelt and meaningful.
After this part of the ceremony the minister will perform the spiritual and meditative part of the ceremony. Again, it is important that each person present is comfortable with this.
Each minister has different abilities. Our suggestion is to choose one that resonates with you. Based on her modality and your consultation there may be other activities. This is just a basic idea of what a Blessing Way entails. No two ceremonies are the same!
Baby blessings have traditionally been performed in churches as a baby baptism, christening, or baby naming ceremony. Those who do not wish to have their baby blessed in a church under a specific religion can still enjoy a baby blessing or baby welcoming ceremony.
This is a way to welcome the new soul into your lives and invite the God Parents to be a part of the rite. In many traditions, it is the God Parents who parent your child in the event you depart from the earth before they are an adult. It is important that they are people who would remain a close part of your life. This ceremony is a spiritual part of our parenting.
There are no rules and our minister will help you with this in a phone consultation before the ceremony day. The ceremony vows can be written by our minister, or by you. Poems and anything honoring this new life can be included.
There may be an oil anointing, prayer and meditation performed by our minister. They will go over all of the details with you prior to the baby blessing.
Most of all, this is a time to celebrate your baby, your love!
All of our ministers have been trained and/or degreed in a variety of modalities. If you need a reading, personal healing, counseling, life or goal coaching or are interested in classes we will give recommendations. You may visit the professional website of the minister who performed your ceremony, or may choose another Bless & Clear Minister with whom you resonate for further services. Bless & Clear is not responsible for services outside of ministerial duties booked directly through the Bless & Clear Company Headquarters.
